In Louviers, France, Robert Vasseur with the help of his wife decided to deviate from the conventional domestic decorations of wall-paper and paint and decorate their house with mosaics made from sea-shells, broken crockery and twinkling china.

It began in 1952 with an old cement sink that Vasseur embellished with mosaics. From there this eccentric interior-design method continued, first to the interior of his house, then to his backyard and finally all the way throughout his garden. Now the entire property, even the dog house, is covered with these shimmering mosaics. To keep his medium flourishing, Vasseur asked the local garbage man to set aside all of the broken crockery that he collected so that after a thorough cleaning he could use them to help with the mosaic festoons that blanket his property.

Though Robert Vasseur and his wife have passed away, tours of the house are still available through their son who can be reached at 02 32 40 22 71.
